Dr Brian Greene announces Australian tour
Prominent super-string theorist and science communicator, Brian Greene to embark on debut Australian Tour in 2016
Australia, October 2015 – Dr Brian Greene is at the forefront of string theory research – a theoretical framework in physics that aims to transform the way the physical world is understood, from being particle-based to a series of interacting one-dimensional ‘strings’.
When not in the process of revolutionising the way we understand the fabric of the physical world, as a science communicator Greene weaves the intense complexities of physics into simpler understandings, a translation of mind-bending concepts easily digestible for those with all levels of interest in science, from infant to casual to academic. In March of 2016, Greene will illuminate the dark corners of scientific literacy in a series of talks across Australia.
Brian Greene attended the prestigious Harvard University from 1980, and in 1987 received his PhD in physics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. In 1996, Greene received full professorship at Columbia University, where he is now co-director of the Institute for Strings, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (ISCAP), and using superstring theory aims to provide answers to cosmological questions, doing away with religious dogmatic explanations in the process. His work in science education has made him the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Association of Physics Teachers’ Richtmyer Memorial Award in 2012.
In the pursuit of making the abstract accessible, Greene has also penned The Elegant Universe (1999), the New York Times bestseller The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality (2005), The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos (2011), and the novella Icarus at the Edge of Time (2008), a sci-fi retelling of the classical Greek myth.
After already diving into the depths of string theory with 2014’s An evening with Dr Michio Kaku, Think Inc. – who have since brought to Australia Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson (2015), Dr Cornel West (2015), ‘The Amazing’ James Randi (2014), and Sam Harris in January 2016 – return with An evening with Brian Greene. Dr Greene will be gravitating towards Australian shores in March 2016, descending from his orbit and landing in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.
An evening with Brian Greene – Australian Tour Dates:
Wednesday 16 March | The Astor Theatre, Perth
Friday 18 March | The Big Top at Luna Park, Sydney
Saturday 19 March | Melbourne Park, Melbourne
