Sam Harris’ January 2016 Tour.

Reason and rationality. Religion and spirituality. Psychedelics and psychopathy. Free will and vegetarianism. Glenn Greenwald, and…well, let’s just leave it at that to describe the plethora of points of discussion that were had across three nights of An Evening with Sam Harris.

Once again, Thinkers, this would not have been the huge success that it was without your participation. We deeply admire the courage that each of you took to attend an event which, understandably, had inherent security concerns. Despite this, your presence was not just a gift to us; it was a wider social statement, a dismissive wave at – or, for the more outspoken among us, a great big middle finger to – those who attempt to silence the expression of ideas, whether with weapons or whines against billboards that never were.

Together, Thinkers and Think Inc. weathered the turbulence of the tour’s concerns and made those three nights ones to remember for aeons to come:

We would particularly like to thank you all for the overwhelmingly warm reception given to Sam’s special guest, Maajid Nawaz. It is encouraging to us to see such a solid population that understands the importance of having the conversations that Sam and Maajid have, and are actively participating in them. If you would like to see Maajid discuss these topics in greater detail, don’t forget that he will be having his own solo talks on January 29th and 30th in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.

It was our honour to have Sam and Maajid grace our shores once again, but an even greater honour to have each and every one of you Thinkers show up to make these talks a success. Once again, from the bottom of our hearts synapses of our emotional brains, we would like to thank you all for supporting our goal of cultivating a culture of critical thought.

Catch the world-renowned critic of religion converse on secularism, spirituality, morality, and religious extremism in the 21st century.

"Atheism is not a philosophy, it is not even a world view – it is simply an admission of the obvious."

In the current social and intellectual landscape, Sam Harris is a valuable and vigorous agent of rational thought, where evidence thrives and evangelicalism dies. A neuroscientist, author, philosopher and critic of religion, Harris spearheads the New Atheism movement.

Alongside Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett and the late Christopher Hitchens, Harris is one of the 'four horsemen of the non-apocalypse', dedicated to expelling from society the detriments of religious faith, and promoting the prosperities of science and secularism.

Harris has penned numerous bestselling and award-winning books detailing the detriments of religious indoctrination, whilst providing critical tools to self-fulfillment which fit within the modern social, secular and intellectual landscape: The End of Faith: Religion, Terror and the Future of Reason (2005), Letter to a Christian Nation (2006), The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Determine Human Values (2010), and Waking Up: a Guide to Spirituality Without Religion (2014). Harris’ most recent book, Islam and the Future of Tolerance: a Dialogue is co-written with British politician, activist and ex-radical Maajid Nawaz, tackling the titan task of discussing how theists and non-theists can reach acceptance of mutually agreed-upon human rights in a world torn between religious extremism and misplaced cultural ‘tolerance’. As a special guest, Nawaz will appear as a 30 minute addition to show, after the hour of Sam Harris. He will also be present during the audience Q&A and meet and greet hour after the show. Think Inc. – the team behind the Australian tours of Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson, Dr Michio Kaku, Dr Cornel West, and The ‘Amazing’ James Randi – are bringing to Australia An Evening with Sam Harris in January of 2016, featuring special guest Maajid Nawaz. Audiences will be engaged with these most celebrated of critical thinkers on the matters of science, spirituality, and secularisation in an age where their conflict with religion is as amplified as ever.
