Pull back the political curtain with Kenan Malik as he examines the failure of multiculturalism, the rise of ‘post-truth’ and how politicians feed off our fear of the ‘other’.

This August, Think Inc., the team behind Australian tours of Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson, Dr Jane Goodall, Dr Michio Kaku and Dr Brian Greene, are partnering with The University of Sydney’s Post-Truth Initiative, to bring writer, lecturer, broadcaster and scientific historian Kenan Malik to Sydney audiences for his one off show, Kenan Malik: Post-Truth Era.

The ubiquity of stories on racial violence and ethnic tensions are a constant reminder that the discussion on race and multiculturalism is ongoing and convoluted. With this in mind, Think Inc. invites you to join Kenan Malik as he explores the history of ideas, truth in the ‘post-truth’ era, and unravels the complex sociological fabric of race and immigration and explores its impact on political policy.

Kenan has long been an important voice on the left, but also highly critical of what much of the left now stands for, especially on issues such as democracy, free speech and the politics of identity. The Salman Rushdie affair was, he says, a key turning point in his thinking on such issues.

Trained in neurobiology and the history of science, Kenan’s scientific inquiry on race has reached wide audiences across a multitude of media. He has presented Analysis, BBC Radio 4’s flagship current affairs programme, as well as writing and presenting radio and television documentaries such as Are Muslims Hated?, Islam, Mullahs and the Media, Skullduggery and Man, and Beast and Politics.

Kenan is also a respected contributor to publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Independent. In addition, he has published several books, From Fatwa to Jihad, Man, Beast and Zombie, and The Meaning of Race. His work focuses on the philosophy of biology, and contemporary theories of multiculturalism, pluralism and race. The trajectory of his work charts a long and admirable (if controversial) lifelong campaign for equal rights, freedom of expression, a secular society and scientific rationalism.

In August, let Think Inc. and Kenan Malik, challenge and even reinvent your concepts of truth and race.
